What is IELTS?
IELTS is the International English Language Testing System which tests English proficiency across the globe. IELTS is the world’s most popular high stakes English-language test for study, work and migration.
Who conducts the test?
IELTS is jointly owned by British Council, IDP Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment through more than 900 test centres and locations in over 130 countries.
What are the two versions of the test?
IELTS has two versions – Academic and General Training. The Academic test is for those who want to study at a tertiary level in an English-speaking country.
The General Training test is for those who want to do work experience or training programs, or migrate to an English-speaking country.
What is the test format and how long will it take?
IELTS has four parts – Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes), Writing (60 minutes) and Speaking (11–14 minutes). The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Listening, Reading and Writing tests are done in one sitting. The Speaking test may be on the same day or up to seven days before or after the other tests.

How are the tests marked?
IELTS uses a 9-band scoring system to measure and report test scores in a consistent manner. You receive individual band scores for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking and an Overall Band Score on a band scale from one to nine. Good scores are 6.0 and above.
When will I receive my test results?
Your Test Report Form will be posted to you 13 calendar days after your test date.
How long is an IELTS score valid?
An IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) is valid for two (2) years.
Can I score report for universities for free? How Can I order additional official score reports?
You can score report up to 4 institutions for free through TRF form for institutions listed on your IELTS form. Additional score reporting: Candidates may request their results to be forwarded to organizations/institutions which require a TRF. The candidate will be charged an administrative fee of INR 1250/- (including Service Tax) for dispatch of TRF via courier or INR 250/-(including Service Tax) if the dispatch is by Registered Post.

When will I receive my test results?
GRE revised General Test: you will see your unofficial scores for the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning measures at the test center. Because of the Analytical Writing essay scoring process, you will not be able to view your Analytical Writing score at the testing center. Your official scores will be available in your My GRE Account and sent to your score recipients approximately 10–15 days after your test date.
